ABOUT THE AUTHOR
HI, I'M CIDNEY.
I wrote my first story as a second grade assignment. It was a fantasy tale about a scarecrow that came to life. Two years later, I read my first fantasy novel: A Wrinkle in Time. If you know it, you'll recall it blends sci-fi with fantasy in a classic tale of good-versus-evil, featuring intense sibling relationships and young heroes and heroines overcoming impossible odds.
To this day, every story I write features ... all of the above!
My love of Sci-Fi began when I was three and would watch Star Trek with my dad. When it got too scary, I would run and hide behind his recliner. While I no longer duck behind furniture, I remain a Star Trek nerd who believes that heroes should be morally good and that diversity makes life on- or off-planet better.
You might have already read that I'm a former homeschool mom of our three kids, who are all graduated now. Although we always said it was year-by-year, we ended up making it the whole way through.
Ironically, I owe my writing career to homeschooling. In the late 2000s, our eldest filled his free time with writing novel-length fiction, sometimes finishing a volume in as little as a month! He inspired me to return to my own love of writing, and my first book came out in 2011, dedicated to him. It is no exaggeration to say that homeschooling gave me a career. (Or two, because anyone teaching their kids already has a full-time job, am I right?!)
For over a decade now, I’ve been writing coming-of-age tales for readers who crave wholesome adventures featuring tenacious heroes and heroines overcoming impossible odds. I veer toward classic good-vs-evil adventures, though nothing touches me more than a good redemption arc. Many of my books contain a little kissing along the way, but not too much. (Mom of two boys, ya know!)
I hope you’ll enjoy reading my stories, whether just for yourself or along with the whole family. And if you homeschool, too? Let me know using the contact form! I can offer suggestions if you want to make one of my titles part of your curriculum! Be sure to check the "for parents and teachers" FAQs.
Wishing you many happy reads,
Cidney
